This questionnaire is open to anyone aged 18 and over who speaks Telugu. Through this research, we hope to gain the perspectives of Telugu speakers all around the world!

Information for participants

The aim of this research is to better understand Telugu speakers’ attitudes towards the language and compare the attitudes of those who live in India, with those living abroad. The questionnaire is bilingual, so you can respond in Telugu or English.

We appreciate your interest in participating in this questionnaire. You have been invited to participate as you are 18 years old or over and speak Telugu. Please read through this information before agreeing to participate (if you wish to) by ticking the ‘yes’ box below.

You may ask any questions before deciding to take part by contacting the researcher (details below).

The Postdoctoral Researcher is Dr Hannah Davidson, who is attached to the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics at the University of Oxford. This research is being completed under the supervision of Prof. Miriam Meyerhoff.

You will be asked to provide some details about where you come from, places you have lived and languages you speak before answering questions about your language use and attitudes towards Telugu and English. This should take about 20 minutes. At the end of the questionnaire you will be asked if you’d like to take part in an optional online interview to discuss these issues in more detail. No background knowledge is required. The data will be used to compare differences between those who live in India with those who live abroad. The researcher will analyse the results and only the researcher and supervisor will have access to the data.

Do I have to take part?

No. Please note that participation is voluntary. If you do decide to take part, you may withdraw at any point for any reason before submitting your answers by pressing the ‘Exit’ button/ closing the browser or letting me know at any point before 31st December 2023 if you wish for your responses to be removed from the study.
