Page 1: Talks With Tutors Sign Up

Magdalen College is pleased to be running a series of virtual lectures delivered by our academic tutors for state school students in our 7 link areas (Barnsley, Brent, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Rotherham, Sheffield, Westminster) and in the East Midlands. These aim to give school students a taster of what studying a particular subject may be like at university level. Each talk will be delivered using Microsoft Teams and include a Q&A where you can ask your own questions.

Talks are dependent on the availability of tutors and we will be adding more events as the term goes on so please check back. Currently available for sign ups are the following talks:

  • [SIGN UP NOW CLOSED] 4th May - 15:30-16:30 - Prof in Law, Katharine Grevling with a talk on Criminal Damage, for A level Students 
  • 20th May – 16:00-17:00 – Prof in English, Simon Horobin delivering a talk on C.S Lewis titled “The Lion, The Witch and The Bookcase” , for Year 7-9*
  • 26th May – 15:30-16:30 – Lecturer in Modern Languages , Dr Alex Lloyd – delivering a talk related to German and History, exploring the White Rose Resistance Group, for Year 10 -13
  • 28th May - 15:30-16:30 - Prof of Politics, Paul Billingham delivering a talk entitled 'Religious Exemptions to Law', for Y11-13
  • 1st June – 15:30-16:30– Magdalen’s Dr Signe Larsen delivers a Law talk, for Year 12-13

*Ideally participants will have already read or watched The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe 

If you are a student then you may sign up to a talk as an individual and if you are a teacher you are able to sign up a whole class. If you are a teacher and you have filled in our sign up form, your students will NOT need to sign up as individuals, we will contact you separately to obtain the names of your students. If you would like to attend multiple events you will need to fill in the form for each event.

Each talk is pitched at a particular age group, if you choose to sign up for a talk designed for younger or older pupils then please be aware the talk may be too easy or challenging for you.

Please note that you MUST meet both the following criteria to sign up or your sign up will be void:

  • Be from one the following regions: Barnsley, Brent, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Rotherham, Sheffield, Westminster and anywhere in the East Midlands
  • Attend or work at a non-selective state school
