Page 1: Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in the UK community

Ethics Approval Reference R69035/RE005

Participant Recruitment Form

This study is in response to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic currently affecting the United Kingdom (UK).

There is an urgent need to determine how common SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19), is in the UK community to inform the public health response.

We will be randomly selecting thousands of volunteers from those who apply to take part. By testing volunteers with three COVID-19 diagnostic approaches - serology, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and nanopore sequencing - this study will help determine how many people in the UK community are infected and help inform the public health response. We will also be exploring the use of nanopore sequencing as a diagnostic tool for novel pathogen infectious disease outbreaks.

You are invited to participate if you are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a current resident of the UK
  • not currently admitted to hospital or another health facility
  • have not previously tested positive for COVID-19

Our tests are research-grade and will not be available within a clinically relevant timeframe. Participating in our study does not change the public health advice to community members on when to seek healthcare advice, self-isolation and testing.
